The Power of the Pelvis

Do you experience leakage when you cough or sneeze?
Do you have difficulty getting to the restroom in time?
Do you deal with pelvic pain and problems?
Do you experience back or pelvic pain during pregnancy?

If so, it is time for you to learn about the power of the pelvis.  The pelvic floor is a network of muscles, ligaments, and tissues that act like a hammock to support the organs of the pelvis.  All of these structures play crucial roles in our normal bodily functions.  When injury and dysfunction occur, our health and well-being are greatly compromised.

When you experience a lack of bowel and/or bladder control, this is called incontinence.  Incontinence may be caused by weakness of pelvic floor muscles which support the vagina, rectum and urethra.  Pelvic and abdominal pain can also be closely related to dysfunction in the muscles, joints or nerves.  During pregnancy, many women experience back pain from increased abdominal weight and ligament laxity.  These problems, and many others, are NOT considered normal and can be treated conservatively with physical therapy.
