Oh, Those Aching Feet!

It’s not your imagination ~ plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the thick, fibrous band of tissue that stretches from the back of the heel, and extending along the bottom of the foot toward the toes. Generally, it seems to feel worse in the morning, but may turn to a dull ache by the end of the day. But, whenever it strikes, it makes every step taken tender or even painful.

Your HealthQuest physical therapist can work with you on a treatment plan that, in addition to over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication, may involve thorough stretching, massage, ultrasound or another modality.

Sometimes that first step is the most difficult (both literally and figuratively!) A free consultation is just a phone call away ~ contact the HealthQuest Physical Therapy location nearest you, and begin your pain-free journey today!

March is “National Nutrition Month”

It’s common knowledge that a healthful diet is an important part of a healthful lifestyle, but most people have trouble figuring out what to do when planning a complete diet overhaul. During National Nutrition Month®, the American Dietetic Association reminds everyone that an easy way to focus on eating better is to start with the basics: build your nutritional health from the ground up. Keep these factors in mind when selecting foods:

Look locally: From farmer’s markets to community supported agriculture, you have many options to find new, fresh foods in your area.

Make calories count: When choosing between food options, focus on the one with more vitamins and nutrients ~ not necessarily the one with fewest calories. To figure out how many calories you need to achieve a healthy weight, visit http://www.mypyramid.gov.

Test your taste buds: A healthy eating plan emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat or fat-free dairy and includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans and nuts. However…expand your horizons! Try a fish you’ve never eaten before or find a new vegetable recipe.

Trick yourself with treats: A healthful diet doesn’t mean deprivation. If you have a sweet tooth, have fruit and yogurt for dessert. If you want a snack in the afternoon, have some trail mix or nuts. There is no reason to go hungry just because you’re making healthful changes.

Do you have a Physical Therapist?
by Heather Asti, MPT

You should! Stop letting everyday aches and pains keep you from doing what you love, call today and start living again.

Most women have a list of doctors ~ optometrists, cardiologists, gynecologists ~ whom they regularly visit to care for their eyes, heart, lungs, and so on. But who do you see when your “everyday” aches, pains and health problems keep you from doing what you love?
